Letter cutlery

Are you ready for an extraordinary picnic??

Then set the table with an unusual tablecloth full of  CVC and CVVC words missing the first letter and use plastic cutlery which will have all the consonants and vowels of the alphabet.

Then mix and match all the spoons, knives and forks in order to present as many different words as possible while trying to decode and blend sounds.

In this way phonics teaching will introduce children to CVC words. First children will start to learn the letter sounds, then they will start to blend sounds to real words and later on they will move up to a stage where they will be able to combine different consonants with the same CVC word pattern in order to create different words thus expanding their vocabulary.

This activity will allow students understand the transformation of simple sounds into words. As a result, students will be highly motivated to keep up discovering the English language and work on their phonemic awareness.

LEGOmania!! Part B

Apart from the storytelling activities and the syntax challenges (do consult Legomania Part A!), LEGOs is a fun way to teach grammar as well! A nice idea is to have a lego train or a simple toy train on which you can carry all the lego bricks which will repesent a different grammatical unit! LEGO grammar 1) You can teach the plural form of the nouns by writing  the different endings and various nouns on the bricks. Then you have to explain the different rules and formations through visualization and hands on practice. Have students experiment with the different endings and help them understand their proper use. Aesop's fables and puppets

Yesterday was World Animal Day and this was a great chance to use puppetry to bring Aesop's fables to life in my lessons. Aesop was a master of telling morality tales based on animal characters, often with a humorous twist. His tales reveal our stereotypical views and the symbolic meaning of animals: proud lions, busy bees, industrious ants and more. The values of these fables can be highly underlined by the use of glove puppets or finger puppets.
