Happy World Puppetry Day!!

On 21st March we celebrate World Puppetry Day!! Feel free to resort to pyppet-led storytelling or puppet-building activities because they create possibilities for creativity, collaboration, critical thinking, curiosity!. Due to their lightweight body full of movement and their extra ordinary mouth action, puppets are great for use in classrooms to bring our stories into life, engage role playing, trigger story telling activities, infuse elements from different cultures and countries into your lessons, practice speaking and listening skills. Finger puppets, glove puppets, rod puppets, shadow puppets, hand and rod puppet, hand and glove puppet, marionette, ventriloquist figures and stop action puppets can offer a wide variety of activities in your lessons! Give them a try!

Aesop's fables and puppets

Yesterday was World Animal Day and this was a great chance to use puppetry to bring Aesop's fables to life in my lessons. Aesop was a master of telling morality tales based on animal characters, often with a humorous twist. His tales reveal our stereotypical views and the symbolic meaning of animals: proud lions, busy bees, industrious ants and more. The values of these fables can be highly underlined by the use of glove puppets or finger puppets. Spaghetti with meatballs activity!!

Do you want to involve some movement and action in your lessons? You may use a big floor mat -you can either make your own one or use a ready made one by "twister "board game or "spaghetti twister" board game. The one I use is "spaghetti and meatballs" theme mat. The point is to have your students follow some orders so as to acquire new vocabulary items or new grammatical structures by putting their hands and feet on the proper colours. Some ideas you may want to apply are the following: 1) You can prepare cards of different colours (green, blue, yellow, red) with different orders aiming to practice imperative. e.g. Put your right hand on a blue meatball, put your left arm on a red meatball etc. 2) You can even make your own recipe by following the equivalent steps For example if you want to make spaghetti with meatballs you should:  -Step 1:put your left hand on a green meatball-Boil the spaghetti  -Step 2:put your ri
