Mary's pink house

Mary's pink house is a highly interactive way to introduce vocabulary about the parts of the house, prepositions of place, types of housing, housing features, rental terms, grammar structures like there is/there are and many more activities. It can be used in many student levels because you can adjust it according to the learning goals of your lesson and the learning styles of your students.

Mary's pink house
For example you can teach the parts of the house and some furniture at junior classes. You can even use some gestures and mime in order to act out what activity you do (eg washing your face and brushing your teeth) and in which part of the house you are (eg bathroom), in order to help children memorize more quickly through vivid examples. Moreover, you can teach prepositions of place by simple asking students to identify where some objects are or by engaging them in every day conversations pretending to be a member of their family who needs some help finding a missing object.

The kitchen
In elementary levels you can use this craft house in activities where you assign students to show off their room or the whole house to their friends using descriptive language and associated vocabulary. In this way students get motivated to practice their speaking skills in a fun way.

The bedroom
In another interesting activity you could get students to practice asking information about this house by playing at calling real estate agencies. Students can be either the landlord/agent or the possible tenant/buyer of the house. This will engage students in an activity where they should ask questions about the house, cost, expenses, reantal terms, housing types, kind of property etc.

The garage
You should use flashcards, small pegs, cardboard in different colours so as to make the house, the rooms and the window shutters which give an element of surprise  and make students curious about what is hidden in every room.
